There is a way of using steel that pretends to be wood — softened, disguised, apologized for. We prefer steel that admits what it is: a bent tube, a visible weld ground just enough, a powder coat that shows the seam.
Honest materials age honestly. A scratch in lacquered MDF is a wound; a scratch in coated steel is a fact.
